Why we do what we do

How Austin Birth Ed got started

Like most love stories these days, it all started with a Facebook post. Sarah saw that Sam has recently certified with the same childbirth education program she was studying with, and was also in Austin. She reached out to hopefully network with some other birth pros, so they set up coffee. After the 5th or 6th “Oh my gosh, me too!”, they knew they had something special. Approaching the birth space with the same philosophy and desire to equip and empower birthing parents their collaboration evolved into Austin Birth Ed.

The Instructors

Meet Samantha, Birth Doula and Childbirth Educator

Hi! My name is Samantha Kelly (pronouns she/her). I am a DONA trained birth doula, mother, and wife, living in Buda, Texas. I grew passionate about birth work during my second pregnancy, when I decided that I wanted to be the one in control of the decision-making surrounding my pregnancy and birth. I didn’t want to be told how it would go, but I wanted to work in a team with my care providers so that we could bring my baby into the world safely, and joyfully. Following that life changing pregnancy, I knew I wanted to be a part of other journeys as well, and help other birthing parents feel that same joy and empowerment that I felt.

Meet Sarah, Birth Doula and Childbirth Educator

Sarah (pronouns she/her) found her passion for birthing while on the journey of birth with her daughter. Being the type of person who wants to know everything about a topic she finds interesting; her emersion into all things birth was only a matter of time. She read any book she could get her hands on, listened to podcasts, and spend countless hours googling (…that last one is not recommended). The thing was, even after she gave birth…she didn’t stop. A fascination with the intricate details of birth, and the deep desire to empower others to pursue what feels right for their birth journeys, led her to Childbirth Education. She is passionate about equipping those in her class to make informed decisions, and ensuring they have all the information they need to do so. Feeling strongly that compassion should be the foundation for birth work, she strives to meet every student where they are at and help them achieve a birth experience where they feel confident and empowered.

Our Approach

We do not believe that the journey to parenthood should be done alone. Our society has unfortunately gone away from our roots of rallying around soon to be and new parents, helping them navigate as they learn. We hope to help connect you with the community and resources you need for this unique and special period in your life. Birth is more than just the physical act, it is an emotional and transformative one as well. We hope that our classes embody a more holistic approach to birth education, recognizing the importance of the experience as a whole.
